About us and 7th Tradition Software.

Some have asked asked us what exactly is "7th Tradition software" and who are we to be be collecting 7th Tradition donations.

We consider ourselves part of AA, operating within and bound by The Traditions. Simply put, we are a group of AA's trying to carry the message.

Many don't realize it, but most AA "entities" got started by a group of AA folks seeing a need and simply beginning to fill it. This is part of AA's "upside down structure." Like joining AA or starting a new group, starting an AA service organization is as simple as just doing it. If members support the service group it grows, if they don't it withers away.

Examples of this are The Grapevine, GSO and even the Big Book, which all got started as we did. Here is a quote from the Original AA Traditions pamphlet written by Bill W.:

"The A.A. Grapevine began in 1945 among several newspaper-minded members who thought we needed a monthly periodical.  They were willing to contribute a little money and boundless effort to make it a success.  At the beginning, this group of AA’s had no special authorization from anyone.  They just took off their coats and did a job, a job so well done that at the end of a year they found their paper in national distribution.  There was no sponsoring nor much promoting. Like the book, Alcoholics Anonymous, the General Office, and the Foundation, the Grapevine became part of A.A. life on its own effort and merit."

Just like they thought a monthly magazine was needed, we are AA folks who are trying to fill some of the gaps we see. Like the founders, we hope to become part of AA life on our efforts and merits.

Part of that effort is in trying to follow The Traditions, like the 7th which, in the short version, says:

"Every A.A. group ought to be fully self-supporting, declining outside contributions."

In this spirit we produce some 7th Tradition software. Our hope is that the AA members that use the programs will help make them self-supporting.
